PolyParadise Wins Earth Guardian Award...

From: Becky Workman

Subject: Theme Camp Of Day Award

Greetings Poly Paradise!

Your camp was awarded the 2001 Theme Camp of The Day Award by the Earth Guardians. Your prize is 2 tickets to Burning Man 2002.

The "Theme Camp of the Day" thing has paid off!

Steve's water recycling (particularly) and the Arizona crew's well organized solid recycling were the things which attracted the Earth Guardian's approval.

Congratulations to all PolyParadise 01' Participants!!!

It is a tribute to all of you because everyone participated in using both the Recycling and Water Reclamation stations.

Steve should get the accolades for the Water Reclamation, Kathe deserves the credit for the Recycle station. I will take some credit since it was my "Home Depot" Credit Card that paid for the supplies, though it was Kathe's idea and her vision.

The 2 free tickets should go to Steve Iddings for the Water Reclamation Project.

This Earth Guardian award is something for us to build on for this year, to upgrade our efforts and be a model camp again this year.

Again Congratulations to all!!!

72 Days till the Playa!!!

Love you all,
Scotto, Kathe, Theresa

LNT Tour / Camp of the Day Contest

The Leave No Trace Tour of Black Rock City initiative was launched in 2002. The tour was conceived as part of an effort to gather and disseminate information about successful practices and technologies for adapting to the specialized conditions of the playa and Burning Man. Theme camps were invited to be part of the tour by featuring simple or novel examples of grey water and trash management systems, camp kitchens, reusable structures, and camp showers that they had devised. The nine participating camps included two villages and a large-scale sound camp that aspired to "leave nothing but energy."

Camps were encouraged to share their plans and designs, which were then incorporated into announcements to theme camps, articles in the Black Rock Gazette, Jack Rabbit Speaks, and camp and Earth Guardians web sites. Burning Man participants were invited to visit the camps via the LNT tour, and they could also access information on the techniques in the Earth Guardians library. Participating theme camps were entered in the Camp of the Day contest, which awards two tickets to Burning Man and recognition on the Earth Guardians bulletin board and web pages.

The inaugural tour of 2002 catalyzed an exchange of ideas about camp design and planning that leaves no trace. Some camps simply want to do the right thing, some love to tinker and experiment, while others aspire to establish truly sustainable camps. The tour was a vehicle for communication about better ways to plan ahead and leave no trace.
The 2002 Camp of the Day winners were Borrachos Y Bicicletas, Heart Waves, Om Bayou, and Poly Paradise.

Congratulations to all PolyParadise 02' Participants!!!

It is a tribute to all of you because everyone participated in using both the Recycling and Water Reclamation stations.

Steve Iddings
"The Water Czar" should get the accolades for the Water Reclamation. The 2 free tickets will be awarded to Steve for all his hard work and dedication on the Water Reclamation Project.

Steve has his work cut out for him this year taking on Gray Water Reclamation for the entire
